Vancouver is a funny place. I don't know whats more hilarious, the idea that the housing market is so terrible, or the fact it can rain 11 months out of the year while we have a beach.

They say Comedy is a coping mechanism. This I know to be true since Vancouver is home to many incredible comedies, it has never been easier to see them in the city or get involved yourself!

When setting out for the podcast research, Tory was more inclined to do the standup portion as I decided to look take a class more about it  (ran through Kwanten). Doing the planning for the episode was the easy bit, the research was something I had to do a lot of digging for. One of the we did to prepare was attend Yuk Yuk’s open mics.
, one by myself the other with my co-host. Here's some of the things we noticed:

Rhythm was another huge aspect of watching these performers, the pauses, the movements, the hand gestures. All of it helped with the material presented. Stage presence is everything for performers, not even just in comedy, in all forms of spoken word, poetry, and any forms of writing. Having the confidence in your ability to share your work is just as important as knowing your work. A good story requires a strong storyteller to make it well received.

When it came time to recording the episode, It was super enjoyable sharing the things that not only I had gained from the class but realizing similarities within the writing and performance world. The way your present yourself in your writing is just as important as how you present yourself on stage to your audience. My partner and I were excited to also be joined in by a fellow comic as well who also shared this wisdom to us on the show. Since then, I feel I was able to find the confidence in myself that my stories needed too.

Tory had an amazing turn out for her bit too! Getting lots of laughs just like she does on the show! We were also fortunate enough to be joined by her friend and Vancouver based comic Morris Barlett who also is the Founder of the popular comedy show "The Meltdown". Barelett in the studio talks about it as safe place for comics to try their material. Was it ever a show!
